• I created MetaNarratives to tell a personal story. It's a journey that began with a dramatic childhood involving a very dysfunctional family (many of whom are still alive), surviving a narcissist wife, alienation from my children, working through trauma memory, healing through journaling, and managing a nervous system that was out of control most of my life. This process has been supported by a few exceptional human beings and, ultimately, the Holy Spirit working through me to transform and rewire my brain.

The journey involved being introduced to many books by wise people like Thomas Merton, Jordan Peterson, and Michael Heiser, and, of course, reading the Bible.

The posts were written mainly for myself, but I chose to make them available to the public. If anything I share can is helpful, that's great. Otherwise, this site serves as a digital record of the issues I've been exploring and submitting to memory for various reasons. ~ Charles Hoffman

Black Sheep

I’m posting this for whoever needs to read this, as I was blessed to have it show up on social media. After many years of struggling to understand the dynamic of being the black sheep, I feel like I finally have validation and understanding. I have been asking for clarity on the subject, and I finally have it. And his words on the matter gave me perfect clarity.

A New Evangelism, Understanding the Post-Modern Mind

How to share the gospel with a post-modern society. Here lies the challenge we face. Postmoderns live in the left hemisphere of their brain. They live in an abstract reality that they’ve created for themselves. They have done this to make a space they can be comfortable in, where they feel no threat. Berdyaev and McGilchrist both speak of this phenomenon in great detail.

Connecting the Dots

Even questions about who we are, what is our true self about? And why didn’t relationships work? Why were our parents so angry and controlling or sad and distant from their children? Many of us have been asking these questions since we can remember and haven’t gotten any answers.

Then I moved, and he got divorced, and I was divorced and moved to Colorado, where I have settled in for the time being.

Weekend With a Friend

Reflection on a weekend spent with an old friend that I hadn't seen for several years and the exercise in "creative dialogue" we were able to engage in with each other with reflections on a narrative created by Thomas Merton, one of the great mystics of our time.

The Invasion

A spiritual invasion of the planet had its genesis in an earlier time. Take a look at the flood narrative/story/history. Archeology suggests the flood occurred about 5,000 BC. Read the account. It describes a time when humanity had lost its way. Humans at the time created a society (or it was created for them) that exhibited no moral compass.
