• I created MetaNarratives to share my story. It's a journey that began with a difficult childhood involving a very dysfunctional family (many of whom are still alive), surviving a narcissistic wife, alienation from my children, working through trauma memories, healing through journaling, and managing a nervous system that was out of control most of my life. This process has been supported by a few exceptional people and, ultimately, by the Holy Spirit working through me to transform and rewire my brain.

The post I'm sharing with you contains thoughts and ideas I came across that meant a lot to me. I have learned along the way that it is very helpful to journal and write down my thoughts and truths I am exploring.

The journey involved being introduced to many books by wise people like Thomas Merton, Jordan Peterson, and Michael Heiser, and, of course, reading the Bible.

The posts were mainly written for myself, but I decided to make them available to the public. If anything I share can be helpful, that's great. Otherwise, this site serves as a digital record of the issues I've been exploring and saving in my memory for various reasons. ~ Charles Hoffman

I have memories of my childhood walking home from Catholic school, always needing to stay alert for the Protestant bullies who would wait to attack us on our way home in the afternoons. Was it because I looked odd in my school uniform, or was it due to being a Catholic kid in the minority facing racist behavior? I didn’t know why they wanted to be so cruel to me!
